The article was published in the prestigious journal of Science on Monday, March 16, 2020. Study authors, led by Dr. Ruiyun Li used available data sources and sophisticated mathematical modeling to determine the prevalence i.e., number of cases, of coronavirus in Wuhan China and how the virus was spread from one person to another.
This article is important because it shows that the actual number of coronavirus is likely far higher than those that have been identified at any point in time. Even more important, it showed that the coronavirus can be passed on from one person to another before any symptoms are present in the infected person.
Take home message, the screening procedures we currently have in place to identify those who seem ill or have a fever are not adequate to stop the spread of this disease. This information is especially critical for professions such as chiropractic, where treatment involves close proximity to patients.
